TitleCorrespondence received by Sackville-West, Vita and Nicolson, Harold
DescriptionThe correspondence in this sub-series was written by Nicolson to his parents, and other family members. The letters date from the early years of his childhood (the first sent when he was six years old) until the age of eighteen. Most of the correspondence was written whilst Nicolson was at school: at Summer Fields preparatory in Oxford and then later at Eton. There are also a handful of letters written when Nicolson was staying at the houses of friends and family during school holidays.

Most of the letters concern everyday events and experiences: reports written from school about lessons and activities in particular. They also mention friends, family members and teaching staff. The correspondence reveals much about Nicolson's emotional development; emerging interests and personality; relationship with his parents; and the preoccupations and lifestyle of a child of his social class.
