Admin/Biog HistoryMark Raymond Bonham Carter (1922-1994), was a publisher and politician. He was the second youngest child of Sir Maurice Bonham-Carter and his wife, the former Lady Violet Asquith, daughter of the Liberal Prime Minister H. H. Asquith. His siblings were Helen, Laura and Raymond.

Nicolson socialised regularly with the Bonham Carter family during the late 1930s, on various occasions staying at the family homes in Tilshead and Clovelly. Mark Bonham Carter, eight years Nicolson's junior, began corresponding with Nicolson when he was enrolled at Winchester school. They shared a mutual interest in art and Nicolson played a mentoring role in his life, continuing to exchange correspondence until the late 1940s.
