-two letters to Bennett & Marshall, dealers, dated 24 July & 4 August 1970, concerning the sale of a letter sent from Gainsborough to William Jackson which Hayes is seeking in his research on Gainsborough's drawings

-three letters from Lawrence Gowing, University of Leeds, dated between 28 June-2 November 1973, concerning a work by Claude Lorrain thought by Gowing to be a Gainsborough. Also includes three replies from Hayes, dated between 10 July-23 October 1973
-letter from A.F. Meredith, University of Dundee, dated 13 July 1973, concerning a drawing owned by the university. Also includes a reply from Hayes, dated 24 July 1973 and a photograph of the work
-three letters from Andrew Wyld, dated between 21 September 1974-11 August 1975, concerning various works by Gainsborough in his possession. Also includes research notes by Hayes and three photographs, one photocopy and one transparency of the works
