TitleWork for Private Eye
Admin/Biog HistoryPrivate Eye is a British satirical and current affairs magazine, published fortnightly.

Nooks and Corners is an architectural column featured in Private Eye and was originally founded by John Betjeman in 1971. Betjeman passed the column onto his daughter before Stamp took over in 1978. Stamp continued the column until his death in 2017. He authored the column under the pseudonym Piloti.
DescriptionThis series contains correspondence, cuttings, and draft articles relating to Stamp's role as Piloti for Private Eye. It contains two types of material: 'Correspondence', and 'Articles for Private Eye'.

Correspondence files:

The correspondence files include correspondence sent to Stamp, 'Piloti', Private Eye, or Ian Hislop, editor of Private Eye, asking for help and advice, or providing information on various buildings, campaigns and town planning developments which they believed would be suitable for the 'Nooks and Corners'' column. The correspondence in these files dates from 2011-2014.

The correspondence files were not organised in folders, but as loose material and have been arranged during the cataloguing process alphabetically by place. In the interest of clarity, the relevant place names, counties, buildings, campaigns and indiviudals have been detailed in the file level description.

The material relating to each campaign or building is limited, in most instance there is only a small amount of material. Fawley Court is an exception which has its own file.

The correspondence files include:

-correspondence
-images
-reports
-research notes

Articles for Private Eye files:

Stamp filed cuttings of his articles for Private Eye chronologically, annotating them with the issue number and date. In some instances the issue number assigned by Stamp is marked incorrectly or is missing. There are no articles for the 1970s or 2017.

Stamp's draft articles were not ordered with the cuttings, and during the cataloguing process the drafts and cuttings were organised chronologically into one sequence. Where there were copies of both the draft and the cutting, only the cutting was kept, duplicates were also not kept.

Unpublished drafts, and other drafts and cuttings of note, (for instance where a draft is considerably altered to the published article) have been kept.

It is clear that this series is not a fully comprehensive record of all Stamp's journalistic output for Private Eye, and at file level issues for which there are no cuttings or drafts are listed.

The articles for Private Eye files include:

-draft articles
-cuttings
-related correspondence
