TitleVictorian Society
Admin/Biog HistoryThe Victorian Society was founded in 1958 to raise awareness and promote preservation of architecture and design created between 1843 and 1914. It is formally recognised as one of the National Amenity Societies, and as such is a statutory consultee on alterations to listed buildings.

As well as running campaigns, the Society contributes to the scholarship and knowledge of the period by organising lectures and conferences, publishing a journal, and organising various tours, visits and events for its members.

Stamp joined the Victorian Society in the 1960s, whilst a student, and whilst at university was particularly active in the Cambridge University Victorian Society Group.

Stamp was asked to the run the Summer School in 1977, and continued to serve as Director of the Summer School programme until 1982. The Summer School was then run by J. Mordaunt Crook and Hermione Hobhouse for the following two years, before Stamp was invited back in 1985, and continued in this role until 1994.
