Title'Changing Metropolis'
Admin/Biog HistoryIn 1980 Stamp began researching and collecting photographs for a publication, originally titled 'The Earliest Photographs of London : 1839-1876', which combined his interest in the buildings of London, and photography. The book was initially to be published by The Architectural Press, but due to financial difficulties they pulled out of the contract. The publication was eventually published in 1984, by Viking and under the new title: 'The changing metropolis : earliest photographs of London 1839-1879'.

For this publication Stamp searched for photographs dated earlier than 1870 in public collections and museums, as well as private collections. Many of the photographs he located had never been published before.
