Admin/Biog HistoryStamp's research into war memorials, and the work of the Commonwealth War Graves Commisssion (CWGC) was extensive. Throughout Stamp's career he researched the subject for a variety of activities including scholarship, journalism, teaching, and exhibitions.
DescriptionThis file includes material concerning Stamp's interest and research into war memorials across France, Germany and Italy. It also includes material relating to the location of, and information contained within, original material concerning war memorials and the work of the CWGC, and their counterparts in Germany.

It also includes material concerning Stamp's role as an expert on the work of Lutyen's, and as an advisor and campaigner for the preservation of various memorial sites.

-letter from T. O'B Horsford, dated 18 Nov 1987, discussing Stamp's article 'The Silent Witnesses' in the Spectator, and Horsford's experiences of the war
-letter from Peter Shepheard, dated 7 Nov 1990, concerning various war memorial sites across France, and Shepheard's capacity as honorary advisor to the CWGC
-letter from Roderick Gradidge, dated 10 Aug 1991, concerning a trip to see Italian war memorials with Stamp
-correspondence exchanged between Stamp, Margaret Richardson, and Chris Bluett, dated 6-10 Sep 2006, concerning a memorial cross designed by Lutyens
