Title'War Memorials': Silent Cities Exhibition
Admin/Biog HistoryStamp's research into war memorials, and the work of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) was extensive. Throughout Stamp's career he researched the subject for a variety of activities including scholarship, journalism, teaching, and exhibitions.

The exhibition 'Silent Cities' was held at the Heinz Gallery of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) from 9 Nov-22 Dec 1977. It was organised by John Harris and Stamp. The exhibition concerned the memorial and cemetery architecture of WW1, and the architects employed by the CWGC.

The exhibition catalogue was both written and designed by Stamp. Stamp also designed the posters and invitations for the opening night.

Stamp invited Oswald Mosley to speak at the opening of Silent Cities, on Armistice Day 1977. Harold Macmillan, Brian Horrocks and Clough Williams-Ellis, were all asked first to open the exhibition but were all unable to. The invitation was openly criticised in the press, and was later rescinded after the involvement of RIBA's President.
