Title'Orient Express'
Admin/Biog HistoryStamp presented a number of television programmes for Channel 5. In 2005 Stamp presented the Pevsner's Cities: Liverpool, and Pevsner's Cities: Newcastle, and in 2006 Pevsner's Cities: Oxford.

Stamp also presented a five-part architectural travel series 'Gavin Stamp's Orient Express', in which he travelled by train from London, via Vienna to Istanbul. The show examines art and architecture alongside the cities' historical and political contexts, to present how the history of Eastern Europe is told through its buildings. WagTV produced the series with Steven Green as Director, and Eliya Aman as Producer. The series was filmed between 12 Jun-15 Jul 2006, and aired on Channel 5 in 2007.
DescriptionThis file includes material relating to Stamp's role as presenter on the series 'Gavin Stamp's Orient Express' and the three Pevsner's Cities episodes. It includes correspondence, research notes, production planning documents, viewer reports, and reviews.

It also includes correspondence discussing Stamp's interest in presenting further television shows; and other televsion personalities including Brian Sewell, and his shows 'The Naked Pilgrim' and 'The Grand Tour'.

It also includes correspondence and annotated booklets sent to Stamp by Karoly Ellenbacher, discussing his opinion of Stamp's portrayal of Hungary in the production, Ellenbacher's experience as a political prisoner, the Hungarian Holocaust, and Communism in Hungary.

-printed email exchange between WagTV staff and Stamp, dated 2-4 Apr 2006, concerning the programme and its potential, and Stamp's role as presenter
-letter from Alan Bennett, dated 14 Jun 2007, discussing how much he enjoyed the programme
-printed email from Stephen Fry, dated 13 Sep 2007, concerning Channel 5 not wanting to commission another series with Stamp as a presenter
