Admin/Biog HistorySpence was a Scottish architect. In 1929–1930, he spent a year as an assistant, in the London office of Edwin Lutyens. Stamp gave the keynote lecture at the conference 'Architecture, diplomacy, and national identity: Sir Basil Spence and mid-century modernism, 3-5 Dec 2008. It was held at the British School at Rome, and supported by the Paul Mellon Centre.
