| Admin/Biog History | Shoosmith was a British architect, who worked in India. He was part of the team of architects led by Edwin Lutyens and Herbert Baker, who designed New Delhi.
Stamp first visited India in 1975 with Colin Amery, to visit LutyensÂ’ buildings in New Delhi. Stamp's research into Lutyen's was extensive, and led to his interest in other architects working alongside Lutyens, one such architect being Shoosmith.
In 1976 Stamp authored an article for the Architectural Review titled 'Indian Summer' which concerns the architects Medd and Shoosmith. In 1980, Stamp contributed to the Lutyens exhibition, held at the Hayward Gallery, and the exhibition catalogue.
In 2001 Stamp wrote the entry for Shoosmith in the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, and in 2016 Stamp authored an article for Apollo, titled 'The tragedy and triumph of Arthur Gordon Shoosmith'. |
