| Admin/Biog History | Henry-Russell Hitchcock was an American architectural historian, and contemporary of John Summerson. On multiple occasions Stamp nominated Hitchcock for the RIBA gold medal but was never successful.
Stamp was asked by Mosette Broderick, Hitchcock's assistant and friend of Stamp, to write his obituary. Stamp also took part in events and publications relating to the life and work of Hitchcock including:
-meeting to commemorate the life and work of Hitchcock held at the Architectural Association, 27 Nov 1987 -Summerson and Hitchcock Centenerary Conference, held at the Paul Mellon Centre in association with the Society of Architectural Historians, 11-12 Jun 2004 (a publication recording this event to be edited by Stamp was planned, but is unclear whether this was ever completed) -Summerson and Hitchcock London Building Tour, 13 Jun 2004
Stamp organised for Hitchcock's letters to Dorothy Stroud and John Summerson to be deposited with New York University, where the Hitchcock Archive is held. |
