TitleGradidge, Roderick (1929-2000)
Admin/Biog HistoryRoderick Gradidge was a British architect and writer. He was active in the Art Workers Guild from 1969, and served as the Guild's Secretary from 1977 to 1984, and elected Master in 1987. He was a founding member of the Thirties Society, of which he was a Trustee. He was also prominent in the Victorian Society.

Stamp first met Gradidge in 1966 during a Victorian Society tour of St Pancras Station, and they continued their friendship until Gradidge's death.

Gradidge introduced Stamp to St Mary's, Bourne Street, it had been extended by Goodhart-Rendel, and Gradidge designed the Columbarium. Stamp lettered the columns to either side of the chancel in 1974.
DescriptionThis file includes material concerning the life and work of Roderick Gradidge, and his friendship with Stamp. It includes correspondence from Gradidge concerning their friendship; a Victorian Society and Twentieth Century Society tour organised by Gradidge called 'The Kaiser's France'; and publications written by both Gradidge and Stamp.

Also includes material relating to Gradidge's obituray written by Stamp for the Independent, and Gradidge's funeral held at St Mary's Bourne Street

Also includes copies of architectural drawings for Gradidge's design for the National Galley, housed in the OS portfolio.

Also includes correspondence concerning Damien Blower's completion of Gradidge's works, including a 'Lutyen's house outside of Newbury', Combe Court, and Overdeans Court.
