TitleResearch files on Giles Gilbert Scott (1880-1960)
Admin/Biog HistoryIn the 1970s Stamp was working at the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), where he was working on the catalogue of the Scott family drawings, including cataloguing the drawings of Giles Scott. Then after the completion of his PhD, Stamp continued to research Giles Scott, for a biography which was never published.

Stamp's interest in Giles Scott continued throughout the rest of his career in his role as an academic, journalist and Chairman of the Twentieth Century Society, and he continued to research Giles Scott for a variety of activities including scholarship, journalism, campaigning, teaching and exhibitions.

Stamp's level of involvement with each campaign varied, as does the extent of material in each file. In some cases he had minimal involvement, but was kept up to date on the progress of individual cases because of his role as Chairman of the Twentieth Century Society. In other cases his expertise was requested as the expert on Giles Scott, or because of his position as Piloti, for which he could reach a wide audience. In other cases such as Bankside Power Station, his involvement was extensive and covered multiple basis.
DescriptionThe majority of files in this series were organised in untitled files or as loose material, where possible, the original order has been maintained. Where no order was apparent, the material was arranged and file titles assigned during the cataloguing process.

The files are organised according to the location of buildings, themes, or professional output.

In the interest of clarity, the names of counties, and individual buildings have been added to the file title in the catalogue. For files on multiple buildings, the names of individual buildings, the place name, and county, have been detailed in the file level description.

Files devoted to individual buildings contain, as a minimum, 6 items. Miscellaneous files include items on buildings, where Stamp collected 5 related items or less on that building. The description includes a list of buildings represented in the file.

The files include material concerning Stamp's research into Giles Scott, relating to a variety of activities including scholarship, journalism, campaigning, teaching, and exhibitions. The material is varied in format and includes:
