Admin/Biog HistorySir Robert Clermont Witt, 1872-1952, was a British art historian who founded the Courtauld Institute of Art together with Samuel Courtauld and Lord Lee of Fareham.

Witt and his wife, Mary Helene Marten, established the Witt Library at their home in Portman Square. This comprised over 500,000 photographs of reproductions of paintings and drawings, and was bequeathed to The Courtauld Institute upon the couple's death in 1952.
DescriptionIncludes thirty-five letters and one postcard exchanged between Witt, Letitia Simpson, Charles Carstairs and Freddie Menzies, dated 6 March 1922-24 May 1946, concerning the acquisition of photographs of works of art and sale catalogues.
