Admin/Biog HistorySewell's first exhibition as an independent dealer after leaving the employment of Christie's was co-organised with Peter Claas and held at the Alpine Gallery in London in 1967. Later that year, he entered into a partnership with W.A. [Bill] Martin. They had first met at Christie's when Sewell worked as an assistant to Martin, who was then head of the Picture Department. Their dealing partnership was dissolved in 1971 following the loss of their leased gallery space at 11 Bury Street, St. James's, London. Sewell then worked on his own as an independent dealer, first based at his Kensington home in Eldon Road, and then at Caley House, Wimbledon, London.
DescriptionThis material comprises catalogues of sales organised by Sewell, some of which he annotated with details of the costs of putting on the sale, and how much works of art were sold for.
