Admin/Biog HistoryGerard Baldwin Brown (1839-1932) was a British art historian, most known for his six-volume work, Baldwin Brown, G. (1903-1937) The arts in early England. London: J. Murray. [the first two volumes can be found at the Paul Mellon Centre Library. See URL below].

He held the Watson Gordon Chair of Fine Art at the University of Edinburgh from 1880 and until his retirement in 1930. Baldwin Brown worked with Oppé during Oppé's brief tenure as a lecturer at Edinburgh University from October to December 1904, although their actual aquaintance predates this.
DescriptionThis file includes twenty-two letters from Gerard Baldwin Brown, mostly undated, but roughly covering the period between 1902-1908. The letters concerng various matters in connection with the study of ancient art and architecture, as well as Oppé's career as a lecturer and civil servant.
