| Description | This series contains appointment diaries used by Oppé. The content of these diaries is very brief and tends to include the following kinds of information:
-lunch and dinner appointments (where and with whom) -appointments to view drawings (including one or all of the following details: owner or institution name; who he went with; artist name) -notes on works bought (including one or all of the following details: dealer or auction house; name of work; artist name; prices paid) -meetings with individuals (generally only the name and/or address of who he is meeting but rarely any description of what the meeting is for) -visits to various gentleman's clubs -general appointments (such as social activities, medical appointments etc.) -life events and matters relating to his family -personal leisure activities, such as taking long walks, and holidays -notes on the weather
In the back pages of some volumes there are brief financial notes, and occasional miscellaneous notes, names and lists
There are some gaps in the sequence of these volumes, with the 1930s-1950s being the most consistent run of consecutive volumes. It is not certain whether appointment diaries were compiled for the years which are missing. |
