DescriptionThis file contains eighty-four letters from Henri Lemaitre, dated between 2 Jun 1947-25 Jan 1957, concerning discussion of various British artists, including Alexander Cozens, Francis Towne, John Sell Cotman, Thomas Girtin, William Blake and many others. The letters also include discussion about works by British artists in French collections, as well as other matters connected with relevant exhibitions and publications.

The file also includes a set of letters and invoices relating to various administrative matters undertaken by Oppé for Lemaitre. Primarily, this entailed sourcing photographs of works of art from various collections. Also included are two articles by Lemaitre, some research notes and some newspaper cuttings reviewing his published work on English watercolours [some of this material is in French].

The file also includes two replies from Oppé, dated 21 & 26 Aug 1956.
