| Admin/Biog History | Lyonetta Edith Regina Valentine Oppé (née Tollemache) (1887-1951), known as Valentine, was Paul Oppé's wife. They met in 1908 and married in 1909. Soon after they had two children together, Armide (1910-1995) and Denys (1913-1992).
She was a member of the aristocratic Tollemache family, and maintained a connection to aristocratic society in Britain throughout her life. She was also an advocate for the arts, particularly contemporary classical and choral music. She sang in a choir and performed at many concerts, as well as hosting recitals at the Oppé family home in Chelsea.
Valentine also supported many women's health initiatives in the early twentieth century, and volunteered with various community nursing and maternity organisations, such as Chelsea Health Society, the Pioneer Health Centre and the Raymede Welfare Centre. |
