| Admin/Biog History | Oppé had a research interest in Girtin, but didn't pursue any larger projects on the artist, publishing only two short reviews in the Burlington Magazine. He corresponded extensively with descendent of Girtin, also called Thomas, who was an art historian and friend of Oppé. This Thomas Girtin wrote a monograph on his ancestor, with fellow art historian David Loshak. However, despite the influence of his own research on the book, Oppé was disappointed with the quality of the scholarship and wrote a detailed critique of it in a review in the Burlington.
