Letters from the first half of the year concern his parents being in Tehran, Persia and later Moscow & Berlin. Several letters are written from a nursing home in Oxford where Nicolson spent two weeks recovering from tonsilitis. Some of the letters include messages written by Nicolson's brother, Nigel

Of particular note:
- two letters, dated 5 June 1927 & undated, concerning Nicolson's experiences spending three days at Eton taking the scholarship exam papers

Also includes a letter from J.C. Chute, Eton, concerning delaying Nicolson's transfer from Summer Fields to Eton and a letter from Nigel Nicolson to his mother.
