Admin/Biog HistoryHelen Violet Bonham Carter (1887-1969), known until her marriage as Violet Asquith, was a British politician and diarist. She was the daughter of H. H. Asquith, Prime Minister from 1908 to 1916. She was the mother of Helen, Laura, Mark and Raymond.

Nicolson socialised regularly with the Bonham Carter family during the late 1930s, on various occasions staying at the family homes in Tilshead and Clovelly.

-letter, dated 15 June 1943, concerning action seen by Mark Bonham Carter in Italy and his subsequent capture as a prisoner of war
