Admin/Biog HistoryEdward Charles Sackville-West, 5th Baron Sackville (1901-1965) was a British music critic, novelist and, in his last years, a member of the House of Lords. He was also Vita Sackville-West's cousin.

Edward, 'Eddy', Sackville-West regularly socialised with the Nicolson family and is mentioned throughout Nicolson's journals. Despite this fact, the correspondence in the archive is limited in both extent and scope.
DescriptionIncludes correspondence of a personal nature concerning plans to socialise, various writing projects; and his occupation at the beginning of the Second World War.

Of particular note:

-letter, dated 6 June 1937, concerning his work on a book about Stendahl
-letter, dated 10 September 1939, concerning his new job and offering Nicolson a place to stay at Knole
-two letters, dated May & June 1947, concerning Nicolson helping with the attribution of pictures in Sackville-West's collection; and a request to write an article for the Burlington
