Admin/Biog HistoryRoland Pym (1910-2006) was a painter, illustrator and theatrical designer.

Pym met Nicolson in September 1939, when they both enlisted as private soldiers in Victor Cazalet's Anti Aircraft Battery. In 1941, Pym, serving with the 16th Regiment of the Royal Artillery, arrived in Basra in 1941, fighting at Tobruk and El Alamein, and remaining in the field until 1944. All the letters in the archive date from this period.
DescriptionIncludes correspondence of a personal nature written after Pym and Nicolson's paths had separated during the Seconf World War. The letters concern Pym's experiences with 16th Regiment of the Royal Artillery; living in the desert; fellow soldiers; mutual friends and plans to meet.
