TitlePissarro, Lucien
Admin/Biog HistoryLucien Pissarro (1863-1944) was a landscape painter, printmaker, wood engraver and designer and printer of fine books. He was the oldest son of Impressionist painter Camille Pissarro and spent his formative years surrounded by his father's fellow artists such as Claude Monet and Pierre Auguste Renoir. He was influenced by Georges Seurat.

Lucien Pissarro was acquainted with the Nicolson family and in 1937, Nicolson contacted him asking for help with his proposed book on Seurat (see entry for 13th Feb in LBN/1/9). The letters are exclusively related to this request and are best read alongside the journals of this period.
DescriptionIncludes three letters received from Pissarro agreeing to help with Nicolson's research on Seurat and making arrangements to meet. Also includes two letters from Maximilien Luce, forwarded by Pissarro, suggesting that he can put Nicolson in touch with someone who knew Seurat better than Luce. [3 of the letters are in French]
