Avdis (1937-2000) and Iris Avdi- Kalkani were exiled to Sikinos by the Greek junta government and became close friends with Deanna and Guy Petherbridge. Both were Athens-based lawyers. Leon was elected to Parliament in 1996 on the Greek Communist Party (KKE) ticket, then resigned in 1997 to run for mayor of Athens. A renovated square in Athens was named after him in 2008. Iris was a writer. |
