| Description | The files in this series concern a wide range of activities undertaken by Petherbridge in both a professional capacity as an artist, writer, art educator, art critic, and curator, as well as in a personal capacity. They document Petherbridge's wide-ranging interests and extensive professional outputs, and depict topics such as:

-vernacular architecture

-drawing
-freelance and self employed careers
-the role of women in the field of art, and art and architectural history
-intersection of art and architecture
Petherbridge called this series of files her 'Annual Files'. These 'Annual Files', were dated by Petherbridge and have been organised chronologically. File titles in inverted commas are those originally assigned by Petherbridge, and the dates provided by Petherbridge have been left in the file title but corrected where necessary.
In some instances Petherbridge's activities and interest in specific projects were wide ranging and extensive. Where this is the case, this has been detailed in the file's admin history. In other cases where her interests were more contained; or there is minimal material; or her outputs are less clear, details have been summarised in the file description.
There are three types of files within the series. 'Current' files, project files, and ephemeral research files.
'Current' files were used by Petherbridge to keep all of her correspondence and associated ephemera for a specific year. The correspondence is varied in content and is of both a professional and personal nature - often covering both within the space of one letter, and concern:
-commissions for art and publications
-her involvement with various association and groups
-her grant and fellowship applications
-correspondence with various students
-correspondence with galleries/museums
-correspondence with various journal and magazine editors
-her artistic practice, (e.g. solo and group exhibitions)
-curatorial experiences
-invitations to teach/lecture
-invitations to events in her role as an artist, art critic, and art educator
-work as an external examiner
-travel
- participation on panels and advisory boards
-participation in seminars, symposiums and conferences
-broadcasts
-buyer and seller information of art (e.g. information on who was buying her artwork, often with details of price, and whether she was selling the work herself or whether the sales went through galleries)
- research and writing for publications
-correspondence with other artists, art historians, and individuals working within the field of art, and architecture.
-friendships and relationships
The project files were started by Petherbridge for specific activities of work which generated a significant amount of material, such as:

The content of these files are more varied and include:
-correspondence

-lecture texts
-draft articles
-travel itineraries

-newspaper and journal cuttings

-publicity ephemera (e.g. pamphlets, flyers, posters)
-travel ephemera (e.g. receipts, business cars, tickets, flyers, pamphlets)
Often the material relating to various projects and initiatives are spread out across various 'Current' and project files, and so it is advised that when interested in a specific project the relevant Current files with corresponding dates are also viewed.
The third type of file are ephemeral research files, which Petherbridge used as a visual information bank which she organised by themes, they often cover a large date span, as she would continue to add ephemeral material to the various files over many years. During the archive's acquisition process Petherbridge described how she would use these files as sources of inspiration for her work. |
