| Admin/Biog History | Heinrich Robert (Harry) Fischer established Fischer Fine Art, in 1971, together with his son Wolfgang, who ran the gallery with his wife Dr Jutta Fischer, the gallery closed in the early 1990s.
Fisher Fine Art Limited put on a exhibition of Petherbridge's drawings titled 'Temples And Tenements', 23 Apr-22 May 1987. The exhibition arose out of her travels to India, particularly the three months from Dec 1985- Mar 1986 when she was a guest of the British Council. A lecture evening was organised to coincide with the exhibition at the gallery, 6 May 1987, in which, Petherbridge, Robert Skelton and Raymond Head talked.
A percentage of the proceeds of the exhibition were donated towards the Artists against Apartheid Fund, Canon Collins Educational Trust for Southern Africa.
The exhibition also marked the publication of a portfolio published by Seagull Books.
The exhibition was also shown at the Harris Museum and Art Gallery in Preston, 4 Jul- 8 Aug 1987, alongside her designs for the ballet 'a Broken Set of Rules' and Petherbridge's commissioned design for a ceiling mural for the gallery.
The exhibition then toured India as a British Council exhibition and went to Madras [Chennai], Calcutta [Kolkata], Bombay [Mumbai] and Delhi from Oct 1987- Feb 1988.
Petherbridge's second exhibition at Fischer Fine Art Limited was 'Themata', 17 Jan-18 Feb 1990, a catalogue was published with an essay authored by Katy Deepwell.
Fischer Fine Art Limited continued to represent Petherbridge until 1992, at which point due to financial difficulties they did not renew their lease at 30 King Street, London and were unable to continue arranging exhibitions for the artists they represented. |
