| Admin/Biog History | Art & Architecture was established to encourage a dialogue between architects, developers, planners, crafts people and artists to foster a better mutual understanding and the widest possible exchange of ideas and information.
A manifesto for the group was drafted with involvement from Petherbridge, Charles Jencks, Theo Crosby and others. The manifesto was then sent to a list of artists and architects, inviting them to sign the manifesto and join the campaign to change education and legislation concerning the collaboration of artists and architects.
In Jan and Feb 1982 a series of four seminars, hosted by different orgainsation were arranged, the issues raised in these seminars were then expanded and debated at a two day conference at the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) 27-28 Feb 1982.
The group approached the Arts Council for a grant which was refused, so instead they applied to ICA, who agreed to help with support from the Arts Council. When the funding was approved a co-ordinator, Linda Brown was hired to help with the administration of the conference. |
