| Admin/Biog History | Petherbridge was selected to exhibit at the Hayward Annual Exhibition of 1978, held 23 Aug- 8 Oct 1978. The exhibition contained work by 23 contemporary British artists. The exhibition was selected by five women artists, Rita Donagh, Tess Jaray, Liliane Lijn, Kim Lim and Gillian Wise Ciobotaru. The goal of the exhibition was to bring to the attention of the public the quality of the work of women artists in Britain in the context of a mixed show; to directly address gender imbalance in the landscape of British art. It was prompted by protests over the under representation of women in the 1975 Arts Council exhibition, Condition of Sculpture.
Alongside the exhibition Petherbridge also participated in a public panel discussion titled 'Women's Art and the Woman Artist', alongside Liliane Lijn, Mary Kelly, and Griselda Pollock.
She also wrote an article for Architectural Design, No.7, 1978, titled 'Battlepieces' which discusses two of her large scale drawings, 'Iron Siege of Pavia' and 'The Concrete Armada', which were both exhibited in the Annual. |
