TitleShakespeare and Sonnets 1-86: nd
Admin/Biog HistoryAs this notebook is undated, it is not known what Waterfield was doing at this time. However, the scholastic nature of its contents suggests it was completed at school or at university.
DescriptionIn this notebook, Waterfield record his studies of some of Shakespeare's Sonnets. The notebook is complete, and in general follows a set format: each set of facing pages has translations of two sonnets on the left-hand page and notes and criticism on the right hand page. It includes Sonnets 1-62, then Sonnets 63-86. It also includes a list that suggests the gender of the person the sonnets are addressed to (situated between Sonnet 62 and Sonnet 63) and at the end of the notebook there is an index to terms or themes in the sonnets.
