TitleObservations and recollections: 1927-1929
Admin/Biog HistoryDuring this period, Waterfield was reading History at Christ Church, Oxford.
DescriptionIn this notebook, which dates from 1927-29, Waterfield records his thoughts on a range of subjects, and in some entries there are detailed descriptions of places and nature. It is complete and most entries are 3 or 4 pages in length, although 'The Customs of Venice' and 'Hagley' are 7 and 9 pages respectively. As the order of the texts is not chronological this suggests that at least some of these texts were copied into this book. However, some paragraphs are crossed out.

It includes the following entries:

-The Customs of Venice (September 1928), a musing on the city and what appears to be a two or three day folk event or celebration in the city.
-Scherzo in T.B. flat
-Hagley (nd), Waterfield's recollection of his family home in Staffordshire, with a description of the house and garden including a 'cave'.
-Tom [the bell tower at Christchurch College, Oxford] (November 1927)
-Night (nd)
-A Spring Morning (June 1928)
-The Cotswolds (May 1929)
-The Perfect Place (June 1929)
-England, My England (June 1929)
-The Clumps (November 1929), possibly about Wittenden Clumps, Oxford
-Exercises

There is an annotation in pencil on one page that is possibly in the hand of Waterfield's father.
