Title1970
Admin/Biog HistoryThis sketchbook was in use the year before Waterfield's death in 1971. It appears that Waterfield spent a holiday on the Aran Islands off the coast of Ireland around 1970.
DescriptionThis sketchbook appears to date from 1970, as one drawing has a date of 4 September 1970. Most of its 30 pages of cartridge paper are used. It includes sketches in pencil, mainly of landscapes, people, plants and buildings. Two drawings are named as being of 'Inishmore' and 'Aran Island, Dun Aengus' [Dun Aengus is a prehistoric fort located on Inishmore, the largest of the Aran Islands, off the west coast of Ireland]. Around 4 of the sketches have annotations indicating the colour of the subjects depicted.

The sketchbook is slightly larger than A4 in size, and 7 of its pages are housed in protective sleeves due to damage to their edges.
