| Admin/Biog History | From June-August 1929, approximately a year before he graduated from Christ Church, Oxford, Waterfield toured France in what appears to have been an educational sightseeing trip. |
| Description | This sketchbook seems to have been used during Waterfield's tour of France between June and August 1929. A few of the perforated pages have been removed but otherwise it is complete, with c 47 used pages. It includes sketches and more detailed drawings, all in pencil. Most of the drawings are of places (for example, picturesque scenes or buildings) and people, and there is one drawing of a circus. Some drawings are labelled, including ones of the following places, of which there are one to three drawings each:
-Tours -Chinon -Limoges -Cahors -Albi -St Tropez
Three drawings have annotations to indicate the colour of the subjects they depict.
The sketchbook is approximately A5 in size. The binding is slightly fragile, as are the pages due to their perforated edge.
