| Description | Two handwritten letters from Aunt Nan [Nancy Tennant] to her godson William Waterfield, whom she refers to in the letters as 'Twink(y)'.
One letter dated 18 January records the author's thoughts on a text she had written about Humphrey Waterfield and includes a description of a route used for giving visitors a tour of a garden, which appears to be about Le Clos du Peyronnet, Menton.
The other letter is dated 18 April and mainly concerns the affect of the cold weather and frosts on Tennant's garden and visits from family/friends. Tennant notes how she hopes William Waterfield will approve of her 'Humphrey story', and there is a passing reference to William's parents and to his brother Giles becoming director of the Dulwich Picture Gallery.
These letters were found inside the front cover of the journal at DHW/1/6/1 - Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and Turkey: 1955.
