TitleNotebook: 'Catalogue of drawings (copied by AHSE, Aug 19-28 1940)'
DescriptionThis notebook appears to have been used by Oppé to keep a basic record of the works in his collection. The information is ordered numerically by the catalogue number assigned by Oppé, and runs from 1-2700. Entries for 2492-2499 are blank as these numbers were never used by Oppé. Entries with catalogue numbers 2501-2700 cover the works bequeathed by E. Horsman Coles. The notebook also contains a short sequence recording works acquired by Armide after Oppé's death (catalogue numbers: 2701-2709) - some numbers in this sequence are repeated. The total number works actually listed in this last section is fourteen.

The entries may contain some, or all, of the following information:

-date of purchase
-artist
-title
-description
-medium and dimensions
-seller name and price paid
-bibliographical history
-exhibition history
-notes on whether it was framed or mounted upon purchase

The back of the notebook appears to have been used by Oppé to record information about works of art exchanged or sold. The following information is given:

-date of transaction
-catalogue number
-institution or individual involved in the transcation
-profits made on the transaction
-notes on items traded for (where relevant)

As noted in the title, this volume was copied out by Aydua Scott-Elliot and presumably became the unpublished, 1959 bound volume entitled, Oppé collection: English drawings [a copy is available in the Paul Mellon Centre Library, see URL below]

The notebook contains several inserts: some of these have been affixed to the page by Oppé, while others are loose butb have been left in place. Some of these inserts date as late as 1984.
