DescriptionSilver water jug of baluster form. Hinged lid with leaf- and berry-shaped finial. Spout and neck decorated with shamrocks. Handle in the form of a sea serpent. Circular foot decorated with foliage and cowrie shells. Floral decoration around body. Also present are two eagle-topped coats of arms, one of which depicts a lion surrounded by the motto "PAX IN BELLO". In the centre of the body under the spout, the following inscription enclosed within a laurel wreath: "Jonathan Osborne M.D./E Coll: Sacrosanet: et individ: Trinitatis juxta Dublin./Coll: Medicor: Reg: et Regin: in Hibernia Socio./NOS OLIM ALUMNI, NUNC AMICI HAUD INGRATI/DEDIMUS./Quodcunque tabulis aeneis inscribitur/Anni erodent euntes,/Ea tamen quoe tuo quum Ingenio,/tum Paternae Curae accepta referimus,/Cordibus nostris,/Lineis Nunquam delendis/INCIDIMUS." Neck stamped with the maker's initials "J.M", the name "G.BROWN" and Dublin hallmarks for the year 1837. Hallmarks and maker's initials also stamped on inside of lid.
