| Title | Photograph of the pillar room in the Mater Hospital |
| Date | [1898] |
| Creator Name | London & County Photographic Company |
| Description | Photograph of the pillar room, south wing of the Mater Hospital.
Note: the room was initially used as the temporary hospital chapel from 1861, before becoming a reception room/day room for patients as shown here, then used for Board meetings, and its current use as a reception/event room. The large painting on the right hand side over the fireplace is a portrait of Archbishop of Dublin Cardinal Paul Cullen, a great benefactor and supporter of the Mater, and still hangs in the Pillar Room today along with the three paintings on the back wall which were donated in 1861 on the occasion of the Mater’s opening. The fireplaces have long since been removed. |
