| Description | This is a Cusco's Speculum. It is composed of duckbill shaped metal, folding handles and central screw. The two hinged blades can be opened and locked into place by using the bolt screw mechanism.
The vaginal speculum is inserted into the vagina to dilate it for examination of the vagina and cervix. It is used for procedures such as cervical smear tests and contraceptive insertion. The instrument shows signs of corrosion.
Designed by Cusco in 1870, this instrument was part of Dr McGuinness's bag. |
