TitleCyprane Inhaler
Date1925-1975
Creator NameCyprane Ltd, Anaesthetic device manufacturer, 1947-2010
DescriptionThis is a Cyprane Inhaler, designed for self-administered Trilene as an analgesic during childbirth. It consists of a canister containing the Trilene, and a rubber face mask. The facemask is shaped to fit securely over the nose and mouth, with an opening in the centre of it to connect to the canister and allow for the trilene to pass through and be inhaled. The trilene was colored blue with waxoline blue to separate it from chloroforn, which smells similar.

The mask has an enameled plate with "Made in England" at the base of the mask, along with a crest embossed at the base of the mask of "Medical BOC". The canister has "CYPRANE Ltd KEIGHLEY ENGLAND" engraved on the top section, a rotating dial that has "MAX TRILENE MIN" engraved on it with markers to indicate the strength of Trilene being administered, and at the bottom on a twisting knob used to refill the canister declaring "TO CHARGE. DRAIN & POUR IN 15 C.C.'S TRILENE".

There is general wear and tear to both the mask and the canister, as well as residue along the interior and exterior aspects of the mask. There is some corrosion on the top sections of the canister.
