| Description | This is a brown leather midwifery bag in the kit shape with a detachable interior lining. It is rectangular, with hinged metal fixtures for the opening of the bag, a lock (the key was not provided), and a stitched leather handle attached with rings. When opened, the metal fixtures on the outside of the bag hold it open. Within the bag is a detachable cotton lining with multiple pockets, which is attached to the interior aspect with buttons.
The leather on the outside of the bag is heavily degraded; it is ripped at the corner attachments of the bag, the coating is flaking off, and it is very discolored all over. There are also white specks on the long sides of the bag. The metal fixtures of the bag are heavily corroded; the coating has flaked off almost entirely and there is rust all over the metal aspects inside and out.
The detachable interior lining of the bag is not torn, however it is heavily stained from rust and general discoloration from age. The lining that attaches to the detachable lining is torn in various plces from the seam that connects to the wall of the bag. The interior lining is torn away from the walls of the bag, as well as discolored and curling away from the walls of the bag due to general wear and tear as well as age. |
