TitleBackhaus' Towel Forceps
Date1900-1949
DescriptionThis is a pair of Backhaus' Towel Forceps, also known as the Backhaus Towel Clamp. They are metal-plated, and the plating is flaking in some areas. It has two small jaws that culminate in small pincers that curve towards each other in order to grasp towels. There's a small screw-joint right behind the jaws that connect them and allow for the grasping motion.

The forceps have two stems that culminate in two finger-rings. These finger-rings are joined and locked with a locking mechanism that has two settings for clasping.
These forceps are have moderate signs of corrosion that's concentrated on the finger-rings, the interior of the stem, and on the locking mechanism's teeth. There are also small scratches along the stems and finger-rings, as well as by the screw-joint where the stems slide against each other when being opened and closed.

These Backhaus' Towel Forceps would have been used to clasp towels, tissue, and other materials during surgery.
