| Description | This item is a Neville’s Axis Traction Forceps, also known as Neville Barnes Obstetric Forceps.
These forceps, engraved with “Made in England” by “Fannin & Co Ltd”, are constructed from nickel-plated metal. They consist of three detachable parts: two curved fenestrated blades with fishtail handles, and a screw-joint traction apparatus, which ensures the secure locking of the two handles together.
The plate is corroded, but the number 6 can be read on each inner part of the handles.
They are used for the delivery of babies presenting as occipito-anterior. The left blade is applied first, followed by the right, and then secured together with the locking/traction handle mechanism. |
