DescriptionThis hollow metal tube is a vaginal speculum of the Ferguson type, created by surgeon Sir William Fergusson (1808-1877). He was a leading surgeon in London and developed numerous surgical instruments, some of which are still in use today. Once inserted, light could be reflected inside the vagina to allow for internal examination. This item is part of the Dr. Diarmuid O’Driscoll Collection.
