| Description | The leather case, fitted with a handle and flap, is marked with the name of its owner, Doctor William Robert Kerans, Surgeon Major in the Army Medical Department. It contains a wooden box with a hinged lid and red velvet lining. The case features double trays with compartments holding the set of amputation instruments required under army regulations; this includes knives, a saw, trocar, needles, a tracheostomy tube, a scarificator, and a cotton tourniquet. Each instrument is engraved with the maker’s name. The set is incomplete. |
