| Description | These are unused boxes of surgeons’ needles, half a dozen each, contained in a white, flap-fit paper envelope decorated with gold ink writings and additions in black ink.
The needles come in different sizes, as indicated on the packaging. No. 1 to 6 needles are “curved triangular” as inscribed on the back of the package along with “Superior Quality Warranted 2 M Great Britain." On the other side, it states in silver ink on the black label “Fannin & CO. Ltd Best Surgeons’ Needles 451 Grafton Street, Dublin."
Needle No. 5 are “1 1/2 circular triangular,” No. 7 to 12 are both “curved triangular” and “straight triangular.” Needle No. 11 are “round bodied, 1/2 circle,” and No. 14 are round-bodied curved. An additional package is damaged with a black stain which covers the size of the needles, but they are “1 1/2 triangular round-eyed.”
All of these packages are inscribed with the size number on the back of the package along with “Surgical and Veterinary Instruments. Telegrams: Fannin, Dublin 2, M. Great Britain. 1/2 a dozen.” On the other side, it states, “Finest quality Surgeons’ Needle. Made in England for Fannin & Co. Ltd., 41 Grafton Street, Dublin, C.3.”
The other needles, No. 20, are “curved triangular, No. 20.” The packaging reads, “1/2 dozen Surgical and Veterinary Instruments. Fannin & Co. Ltd., 41 Grafton Street, Dublin, C.3. Telegrams: Fannin” on one side with a piece of tape. On the other side, which features two clear plastic square fenestrations, “Surgeons’ needles, finest quality, made in England.”
