TitleDoctor's Bag
Date1900-1949
Creator NameFannin, Medical supply company, 1829-
DescriptionThis is a Doctor's Bag, kit shape. It features a sturdy dark brown leather exterior, a brass ridged frame, a wide opening, a leather handle, and a lock mechanism.
The bag shows signs of damage due to mold and wear and tear, especially in the side seams (one side is unstitched) and the handle (which is detached from the brass fitting). Inside, secured with metal buttons, there is a detachable white cotton lining feturing sewn cotton bands that create individual compartments for inserting instruments. The lining also shows stains and wear over time. On one short side of the bag, there is a flap that, when lifted, reveals a rectangular compartment used to hold instruments. Made by Fannin, as indicated on the detachable lining, this bag is part of the Sextone Murnane collection.
