| Description | Rectangular wooden case with a front handle and locks, containing a fibre optic endoscope developed by Hirschowitz in 1957, as labelled on the inside of the lid. The device was manufactured by the American Cystoscope Makers and sold by Fannin. It was presented by and belonged to Dr Stephen Doyle of St. Laurence’s Hospital.
The case contains the endoscope, with a handle and eyepiece, with tubing and light cables, as well as a light controller device. A rubber tube with pump is also included, but broken, as are the electric cables. Spare components and light bulbs are stored in a compartment with a sliding lid, including some unopened bulbs |
