DescriptionWooden gavel and resting plinth. Gavel is broken into four parts; the enamal face displays the coat of arms, motto and name of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland in Latin. Rectangular plinth is inscribed with the words: "THIS GAVEL OF IRISH OAK/RECOVERED FROM A BOG IN NORTH ANTRIM/WAS MADE BY/JOHN COLVILLE, FRCS(Ed), FRCSI/FOR THE USE OF/THE ROYAL COLLEGE OF PHYSICIANS OF IRELAND/Given on St. Luke's Day 1994".
